Basestation whānau and friends gathered on Wednesday 6th November to help us celebrate our 10th birthday milestone. Along with a slice of birthday cake and glass of bubbles we heard stories and thoughts from the four co-founders as well as current residents and past 'OG' residents.
At the time of the event, Steven Vincent (one of the co-founders) had departed to walk Te Araroa (the length of Aotearoa NZ), but with the power of technology (and excellent Wi-Fi) we were able to connect with him via video call from his current location at a beach near Marsden Point. It was so great to have him join the festivities remotely so that he didn't have FOMO, and to check that he was still alive and well!
Just to keep things authentic we put together a slideshow of photos of the building, residents and events over the past 10 years and our music playlist was even hits from the 2014s.
One of our activities was a time capsule (a large scale 3D printed old school 3.5-inch floppy disk), we asked our guest to share their thoughts on two questions:
“Share your tip for the next generation of Basestation residents who will be just starting out in 10 years”
“What fundamental changes do you predict will reshape the way we work in office settings?”
We will be collecting these messages to store in our time capsule with instructions that it can't be opened until 2034!
We also announced our big giveaway; a chance for a new and up and coming startup to have office space for 10 weeks at Basestation! We've also been firm champions of entrepreneurship and what better way to show this commitment than by providing a supportive space and community to help a new business grow and thrive. A huge thanks to everyone who came along and shared in the festivities, we love hosting events and this was a really special one. We can't wait to see what the next 10 years will bring!
