As part of Basestation’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) we sponsor or offer in-kind support to initiatives, events or groups that align with our kaupapa. One of these is Powered by Impact - a podcast series set up by one of our residents, Bryar Stewart from The Icehouse. Powered by Impact is Bryar’s side hustle and passion, we wrote a blog about her drive to get the podcast up and running earlier this year as part of our International Women’s Day series.

The idea for the podcast initially came about when Bryar was at university studying for her Bachelors of Business, double majoring in Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Marketing. She started the podcast in June 2021, since then she has recorded and published 20 episodes.

Bryar approached Basestation last year about sponsoring her second season - of course, we said YES!

The focus of Powered by Impact is to maximise and raise the profile of social impact within businesses. The podcast works as a way for Bryar to put a spotlight on some of the unsung heroes in this space, sharing their good work and empowering others to do the same with social impact strategy, communications, impact initiatives & events.

Season two features two of our Basestation founders, Steven Vincent and Pascale Hyboud-Peron:

Season 2, Episode 1 - Steven Vincent on the art of community and the shared economy
In this episode, Steven shares the impact of each of his businesses on the community and their link to 'The Shared Economy'. He discusses the art of community building, collective impact, past inspirations in his life, his learnings, challenges of implementing social impact as an SME business owner and much more.

Season 2, Episode 8 - Pascale Hyboud-Peron on activating entrepreneurial communities and unlocking the potential of youth
In this episode (part 1 of 2), Pascale shares  her story, work experience, alongside the impact Stand Tall Community Trust is achieving. She discusses how we can support younger generations better, so they can open their own doors and build the world we all want to see.
She unpacks the work Stand Tall does with the Young Enterprise Scheme, what young business minds care about, and how they partner with different businesses and organisations to support this purpose.

Season 2, Episode 9 - Pascale Hyboud - Peron on the value of community building (the economy and society)
Part 2 of this 2 part episode  focuses on the power of building communities, and how businesses can build communities around their purpose/clients/brand. It also highlights that community building can be hard to measure yet it's the magic that happens behind the scenes - so how can we put ROI to this magic. A big topic for active community builders and individuals wanting to make a difference.
Pascale also touches on how businesses can make their workplace ready for the youth of today!
